Little puppy Cole came to us as an emergency rescue.
6/8/18 Yesterday afternoon we received a call that a puppy needed a quick pull from AFV (Animal Friends of the Valley). Cole has a terribly mangled back paw, is only 3 months old, and was left in the night drop with gauze wrapped around his leg.
One of our volunteers in the area picked him up and rushed him right over to California Veterinary Specialists in Murrieta where he is now being treated by a specialist.
The shelter vet wanted to amputate right away, but after an examination at CVS, we hope to be able to avoid amputating his foot.
He will be in ICU being closely monitored for the next few days to see if we can save his paw. The wound is severe but there is good blood and nerve supply to the foot. Constant bandage changes and 24 hour monitoring will go a long way to saving the foot. We should know more on Monday or Tuesday.
