Markie is a purebred English Lab who is very special both in personality and needs. This little guy has been blind since birth and can only see faint shadows, but this doesn't stop him from being happy and enjoying life. Markie is well adjusted to his limited sight and just wants to please. He uses his nose beautifully to navigate and he has strong senses to compensate for his vision loss. He's learned the layout of his foster home and takes himself outside to sniff and pee, and knows where the water bowl is. It's absolutely amazing how well he gets around. He loves to play with his foster brother and will do the play-bow with some barks and a rapidly wagging tail. We think he'd really benefit from having a friendly dog sibling that wears a bell, so he can follow that dog around.
Markie was diagnosed with dwarfism which caused some issues with his joints. He has completed medical treatments in excess of $5,000 which included eye surgeries, elbow surgery and stem cell therapy. He is doing great and is ready for his forever home. Won't you please make a donation to this special little boy, using the Donate button on his page? He and his LR fan club truly appreciate your support.
Markie loves life to the fullest and wants to be a part of everything you do. Being blind does not slow him down at all. Markie loves to go for walks, he goes for two walks daily, about one mile each walk. Markie walks slowly, but he has learned to navigate curbs and other obstacles through voice commands. He has met several dogs and young children in the neighborhood and he loves them all. Markie learned leash manners in a couple of walks and will stay by your side and not pull on the leash. He loves to play, chew on his rope toys and nylabones and has learned to take treats gently. Markie has not had any potty accidents in the home and will go to one of the doors if he needs to go outside. Markie is very attentive and confidently navigates the home and yard with no problems.
Markie would love a single level home where another dog is present. He is trustworthy when left alone however would do best with someone who is home most of the time. Markie shows too much interest in cats, he will sniff them out and nudge or nip them. Please consider opening your heart and home to this darling little guy. He'll reward you with kisses, cuddles and years of happiness. If you are interested in adopting Markie, visit the Adoption Info page to submit an application.
